Common questions

What should a sandblasting invoice include?+

At minimum: your company name and contact info, customer name, invoice number, date, line items broken out by media, labor, travel, and any extras like containment or disposal. Include payment terms (net 15, net 30, or due on receipt). If you charge by the square foot, show the area and rate so the customer can see how you got to the number.

Should I charge sales tax on sandblasting?+

It depends on your state. Most states tax sandblasting as a service, but some exempt it when performed on real property (buildings, bridges). Check your state's department of revenue. When in doubt, charge tax. It's easier to refund than to owe back taxes.

How do I set payment terms for blasting work?+

For residential and small commercial: due on completion or net 15. For larger commercial and industrial: net 30 is standard. For government and GC work: expect net 60-90. Always put terms on the invoice in writing. Consider requiring a deposit (25-50%) for jobs over $5,000.

How much should I charge for sandblasting?+

Most blasters charge $1.50-$4.00 per square foot for standard work. Light coatings on flat surfaces run lower. Heavy coatings, lead paint, or complex geometry push toward the high end. Factor in media cost, labor, travel, and containment. Use our free sandblasting calculator at /calculator to plug in your job details and get a number fast.

Do I need to list media cost separately on a sandblasting invoice?+

You don't have to, but you should. Breaking out media, labor, and travel separately shows the customer exactly what they're paying for. Transparency builds trust and reduces pushback on price. It also makes it easier to adjust a quote if the scope changes mid-job.
